Fresh blueberries, creamy matcha, and a little slow-morning magic. Recipe 35 of The 100 Recipe Project

Layered blueberry matcha latte with ice, mint, and fresh blueberries on a marble table beside a whisk and bowls.

Some mornings call for coffee.

Others call for something a little quieter.

This Blueberry Iced Matcha Latte has become one of my favorite slow summer drinks. Sweet blueberry syrup settles into creamy milk before a vibrant layer of matcha floats over the top, creating one of those café drinks that's just as beautiful to look at as it is to sip.

It's lightly sweet, refreshing, and feels special enough for a weekend morning on the porch, but simple enough to make any day of the week.

Franklin Kitchen Tips

• Ceremonial matcha makes a smoother latte than culinary grade.

• Don't use boiling water—it makes matcha bitter.

• Homemade blueberry syrup keeps in the refrigerator for about a week.

• Freeze leftover syrup in ice cube trays for quick drinks later.

Around Our Table

One of my favorite things about café drinks is that they encourage you to slow down for a few minutes.

This one has become my "porch drink." Whether the kids are still asleep or everyone is slowly waking up, there's something peaceful about watching the green matcha swirl into the blueberry milk before taking that first sip.

Sometimes the prettiest recipes are also the simplest.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use frozen blueberries?

Absolutely. They make a wonderful syrup year-round.

What milk works best?

Whole milk creates the creamiest latte, but oat milk is equally delicious.

Can I make it ahead?

Prepare the blueberry syrup in advance, then assemble the drink fresh.

Is matcha healthy?

Matcha naturally contains antioxidants and provides a gentle caffeine boost.

Do I need a bamboo whisk?

No. A handheld milk frother works wonderfully.
